History
The Association was formed in 1989 when residents became concerned about a proposed hotel development on the corner of Vine Street and Prospect Road. Active for a number of years, the Association managed to successfully influence planning outcomes and help preserve the character of Prospect. The Association reformed in 2010 in response to the State Government 30 Year plan. This has the potential to impact significantly on the heritage and character of our City.
Role of the Association
- Promote the best interest of members of the Association and the community of the Prospect local government area and environs in community matters.
· Maintain the character of Prospect and its sense of community.
· Inform residents on issues.
· Make representations on matters that affect the Prospect local government area and environs.
· Support and co-operate with other organisations whose aims and activities are compatible with those of the Association.
Prospect Residents Association can assist residents with:
- Information about what is happening at council and state government level e.g. planning and development.
- Assistance with letter writing, petitions and submissions on issues that may impact on where you live.
- Gathering information and research on issues impacting on us locally e.g. environment, sustainability, transport & heritage / character of your area.
- Support in attending council meetings and presentations to council.
- Lobbying council on local issues e.g. maintenance of streets, footpaths and parks; more greening and open space; safe cycling; height of buildings & density and style.
What can you do to help?
You can help for a day at a special event... be part of a project for a few weeks... help with the occasional letterbox drop... or contribute on an ongoing basis. Currently we are active with a membership drive, fundraising, newsletter, letterboxing on various matters, community forums and website tasks.
How to get involved?
If you are enthusiastic or if you've not made up your mind, contact us to learn more about what we do. Some of our committee can arrange a chat by phone and/or over a ‘cuppa’ at a local place. See our Contacts page.
